Phil Simmons, the head coach of Bangladesh, has left the team's tour of Sri Lanka to seek medical consultation in London. Contrary to speculation, his departure is not related to a performance review by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Simmons is expected to rejoin the squad on July 7, in time for the third One Day International (ODI) of the series. Following the ODI series, Bangladesh is scheduled to play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
"Phil Simmons is leaving for two days for personal reasons," confirmed team manager Nafees Iqbal on Friday. "He had a doctor's appointment in February, which he had to miss due to the Champions Trophy. This appointment could not be rescheduled. Before the tour commenced, he discussed this with the board and planned accordingly. He departs today and will be back on July 7."
Bangladesh's performance on the tour has been mixed. While they secured a draw in the first Test, they lost the second Test, losing the series. They also experienced a dramatic collapse in the first ODI, resulting in a loss.
