Reporting from Birmingham, TimesofIndia.com brings you the latest from the Indian cricket team's tour of England. The squad traveled by bus from Leeds to Birmingham on June 25, embarking on a three-hour journey to their next destination in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series.
Interestingly, several players opted to bring their own pillows for the ride. KL Rahul took it a step further, stowing a foldable mattress in the luggage compartment.
The reason? Rahul prefers the consistency of his own mattress for optimal sleep during the tour, avoiding the varying firmness of hotel beds. This ensures he is well-rested and ready to perform at his best.
The team arrived in Birmingham under bright skies on Wednesday afternoon. Jasprit Bumrah quickly headed to a local grocery store to pick up essentials. The rest of the day was spent settling into their accommodations at a luxury hotel.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak have been a common sight together in the evenings, a trend that continued in Birmingham. The duo was seen taking a leisurely walk around a well-known spot in the city.
With some time before the second Test, the players are taking advantage of the rest period.
The team's coffee runs, which started in Leeds, are expected to continue throughout their time in Birmingham, London, and Manchester, culminating at The Oval. Before the series opener in Headingley, players frequently stepped out for coffee and meals.
Senior players have made it a point to spend time with the younger members of the squad when they're not training or playing.
Before boarding the bus to Birmingham, players like Kuldeep Yadav, Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and fielding coach T Dilip made sure to fuel up with caffeine. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant and Arshdeep Singh were in charge of the music on the Bluetooth speaker.
The Indian team had a day off from training on Wednesday, and another today. Cricket activities are likely to resume on Friday.
