Elon Musk's X Corp. (formerly Twitter) has taken decisive action against accounts violating its policies in India, banning over half a million accounts between January 26 and February 25. These bans, reported by Reuters, are a result of violations related to promoting terrorism, child sexual exploitation, and non-consensual nudity.
Elon Musk's X platform bans Indian accounts for policy violations.
According to the report, 506,173 accounts were banned for engaging in activities related to child sexual exploitation and the sharing of non-consensual intimate images. Additionally, 1,982 accounts were suspended for promoting terrorism.
In total, X banned 508,155 accounts in India during this period. The platform also received 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms, with 41 requests specifically related to account suspensions.
X Corp. stated, "We overturned 1 of these account suspensions after reviewing the specifics of the situation. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended." The company also confirmed receiving 71 requests regarding general account inquiries during the reporting period.
This isn't an isolated incident. Between December 26 and January 25, X banned approximately 231,215 accounts in India and 1,945 accounts for promoting terrorism.
To avoid account suspension on X, users should refrain from violating the platform's established policies, particularly those concerning child sexual exploitation and the distribution of non-consensual intimate imagery.
