Rishabh Pant's Somersault Celebration Draws Reaction from His Doctor: "Unnecessary!"
Rishabh Pant's dynamic batting display in the first Test against England, marked by two centuries, was complemented by a post-century celebration that has become a talking point. However, his celebratory somersault has elicited a reaction from an unexpected source.
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the surgeon who played a crucial role in Pant's recovery after a severe car accident in December 2022, shared his thoughts on the matter. In an interview with The Telegraph, Dr. Pardiwala acknowledged Pant's athletic background, stating, "Rishabh trained as a gymnast. Although he looks large, he is quite agile, and he does have a lot of flexibility. And, that’s why he’s been doing those somersaults of late. It’s a well-practised and perfected move — unnecessary though!”
Pant's return to cricket has been remarkable, considering the extent of his injuries sustained in the car accident on December 30, 2022. The crash, which occurred while he was driving from Delhi to Roorkee, resulted in multiple injuries that sidelined him for an extended period.
In the match against England, Pant showcased his prowess with a rapid 134 in the first innings, followed by 118 in the second. Despite his efforts, India lost the match by five wickets, failing to defend a target of 371.
Rishabh Pant's performance in England underscores his aptitude for challenging conditions. In 10 Tests, he has amassed 808 runs at an average of 42.52, including four centuries and two half-centuries, with a highest score of 146.
