The upcoming white-ball series between Australia and India, scheduled for October and November, is already a major hit, especially among the Indian diaspora. Following the success of the Ashes ticket sales, the demand for the limited-overs matches is skyrocketing, with over 90,000 tickets sold across eight games within just two weeks of going on sale to the public.
Eager fans anticipate the thrilling India vs. Australia series later this year.
Public ticket allocations for the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) One Day International (ODI) and the Manuka Oval Twenty20 International (T20I) in Canberra are completely sold out – four months ahead of the scheduled matches. This highlights the immense anticipation for the series. Tickets for the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) T20I and the Gabba T20I are also selling quickly.
Cricket Australia has reported that Indian fan groups are a significant driver of this high demand. Over 16% of all tickets sold have been purchased by Indian supporters' clubs. The Bharat Army is leading the charge, having secured over 2,400 tickets, while Fans India has purchased over 1,400.
The iconic Sydney Cricket Ground is a fan favorite.
In addition to organized fan groups, individual community members are also contributing to the ticket frenzy. Amit Goyal from Brissy Baniyas, an Aggarwal community group, has purchased 880 tickets for the Gabba T20I, making him the single largest buyer for that match. Groups like the Indian Community of Gold Coast and Pakka Local have also secured over 500 tickets each for matches at the Gold Coast and MCG.
Joel Morrison, Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager of Events & Operations, expressed his enthusiasm about the strong ticket sales. "Exhausting our public ticket allocation for the SCG ODI and Manuka Oval T20I four months prior to the series is a testament to the tremendous interest for the upcoming season amongst cricket fans," he stated.
He further added, "We are thrilled to see continued strong engagement amongst Indian diaspora off the back of a record-breaking Border Gavaskar series last summer. The forecast strong turnout of Australian and Indian fans means we’ll again have a fantastic atmosphere at each match. There is extreme interest in what promises to be our biggest ever summer of cricket, so we encourage fans to buy early to avoid missing out on the action.”
