Sonakshi Sinha has revealed a surprising reason why she avoids swimming at night: the 1992 horror film Junoon. The actress shared that the movie, starring Rahul Roy and Pooja Bhatt, deeply traumatized her as a child. With Nikita Roy film to be released on July 18th, Sonakshi candidly discussed the lasting impact of the film.
Everyone has that one childhood horror film that instills fear. For the Bollywood actress, it was Junoon, the cult horror thriller.
"One horror film that really scarred me for life was Junoon," Sonakshi Sinha confessed. "Main aaj tak raat ko swimming pool mein nahi jaati hoon because of it." She explained that the film, which depicts a man transforming into a tiger at night, left such a deep impression that she still avoids swimming after dark.
Adding to the childhood fright, Junoon was filmed at a familiar location for Sonakshi. "I used to go swimming at Centaur Hotel as a child, and that was the same hotel where Junoon was shot," she revealed. The thought of Rahul Roy's character transforming into a tiger and jumping into the pool she frequented was enough to traumatize her.
For Sonakshi, Junoon was more than just a film; it was a formative, unsettling experience that has stayed with her. Despite being raised in a Bollywood family and becoming an actress, she admits that certain horror films still make her uneasy, with Junoon holding a special place for all the wrong reasons.
Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, Junoon is a 1992 supernatural thriller about a character played by Rahul Roy, cursed to transform into a tiger on full moon nights. With its eerie atmosphere, haunting transformation sequences, the film became a cult classic.
Nikita Roy is directed by Sonakshi's brother Kussh S Sinha and features Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal.
