Smriti Mandhana, the dynamic batter from Team India, has carved her name into cricket history by becoming the first Indian woman cricketer to achieve centuries in all three international formats: Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
Smriti Mandhana celebrates her record-breaking century.
This landmark moment occurred during the first T20I match between India Women and England Women at Trent Bridge. Mandhana delivered a breathtaking performance, scoring 112 runs off just 62 balls.
Leading the team as captain, Mandhana demonstrated exceptional leadership with a dominant innings that included 15 boundaries and three impressive sixes. Her aggressive yet controlled play propelled India to a remarkable total of 210/5 in 20 overs, marking their highest-ever T20I score against England.
This century was also Mandhana's first in T20Is, completing a rare feat that no other Indian woman batter has accomplished. Her century set an aggressive tone early in the innings, combining elegance with power. She skillfully countered England’s leading spinners, such as Sophie Ecclestone, with fearless strokeplay.
Valuable contributions also came from Harleen Deol, who scored 43 runs off 23 balls, and Deepti Sharma, who remained not out with 7 runs off 3 balls. India maintained a high run rate throughout their innings. Lauren Bell was the most successful of England’s bowlers, taking three wickets, but the damage had already been done.
Mandhana’s achievement places her among a select group of cricketers, both male and female, who have achieved centuries in all three formats of the game. Her milestone is not only a defining moment in her career but also a significant milestone for Indian women’s cricket. It is set to inspire a new generation of cricketers to pursue their dreams and overcome obstacles.
With this commanding performance, Mandhana has reaffirmed her position as the face of Indian women’s cricket, known for her consistency, fearless approach, and record-breaking achievements.
